Rex Warnert has worked in the IT field since 2011. In 2011, they were an Independent Contractor for Acentia, where they assisted in the relocation of an entire company, supervised the disconnection of all of the company's desktops, and assisted in the relocation of the company server room. From 2015 to 2017, Rex Warnert worked for DMS, Inc. as a Cyber Security Solutions Engineer, Desktop Support Engineer, and IT Intern. During their time as an IT Intern, they became the lead of the VLAN project and returned to assisting scientists in moving their computers into protected VLANs to ensure FISMA compliance. In 2017, Rex Warnert worked for New Age Protection, Inc. as an Access Control Manager, where they maintained positive accountability for personnel, vehicles, and property entering and departing sponsor facilities, and performed physical penetration assessments. Currently, Rex Warnert is working for SIXGEN as an Offensive Cyber Operator, where they lead a team in conducting continuous offensive engagements for customers located around the U.S., and is involved in embedded device vulnerability research and development of an IoT range.
Rex Warnert completed a Master of Science in Cyber Defense Operations from SANS Technology Institute in 2020. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science with Security Track from Towson University in 2017. In 2015, they obtained an Associate's Degree in Computer Science from Frederick Community College. In 2012, they attended the United States Naval Academy and studied Computer Science. Rex has also obtained multiple certifications, including Red Team Operator from Badgr (now part of Instructure) in 2022, Offensive Security Certified Expert (OSCE) from Offensive Security in 2019, Offensive Security Certified Professional (OSCP) from Offensive Security in 2018, Jamf Certified Admin and Jamf Certified Tech from Jamf in 2018, OSWP Offensive Security Wireless Professional from Offensive Security in 2017, GIAC Certified Windows Security Administrator (GCWN) from GIAC Certifications in 2020, GIAC Continuous Monitoring Certification (GMON) from GIAC Certifications in 2019, CompTIA A+ ce from CompTIA in 2014, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst CySA+ from CompTIA in 2017, CompTIA Network+ ce from CompTIA in 2014, CompTIA Security+ ce from CompTIA in 2014, GIAC Certified UNIX Security Administrator (GCUX) from GIAC Certifications in 2018, GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) from GIAC Certifications in 2018, and Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician from Cisco in 2014.
