Will Thames

Will Thames has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Will most recently worked as a Principal Infrastructure Engineer at Skedulo, starting in April 2018. Prior to that, they served as a Devops Engineer at XVT Solutions from January 2017 to April 2018.

Before joining Skedulo and XVT Solutions, Will worked at Red Hat from November 2014 to December 2016 as a System Administrator. During their tenure, they played a crucial role in the successful migration of Bugzilla from MySQL to PostgreSQL, and also introduced an improvement process for systems engineering code.

From October 2012 to October 2014, Will Thames worked at Suncorp Group where they held two roles: Delivery Solutions Systems Engineer and Development Tools Systems Engineer. In the former role, they worked on various delivery projects, while in the latter role, they focused on implementing development tools.

In the early 2000s, Will worked at Betfair as an IS Product Delivery and Support Technical Lead, IS Platform Technical Lead, IS Linux Senior Engineer, IS Linux Team Lead, and IS Linux Engineer. During their time there, they led the migration of several applications to a new production data center, advocated for a devops-focused culture, and supported mission-critical applications.

At Fujitsu Consulting from 2000 to 2003, Will served as a System Integration Consultant, specializing in application server projects for Reed and BBC Worldwide. Will implemented and supported Oracle 9iAS and ATG Dynamo on various hardware platforms.

Prior to their consulting career, Will Thames worked as an Auralization Researcher at the University of Manchester from 1997 to 2000.

Will Thames holds an MSc in Numerical Analysis and Computing from The University of Manchester, which they obtained in 1997. Prior to that, they completed a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and Mathematics from the same university in 1996. In addition to their academic qualifications, Will has acquired several certifications, including the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist from The Linux Foundation in 2022, and various AWS certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, AWS Certified Developer - Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate, and AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate, all obtained in 2017. Will also holds the Certified Kubernetes Administrator certification from The Linux Foundation, which they obtained in 2020.
