Jack Eggleston

Jack is a water resource scientist with a passion for building new technologies to improve management and protection of natural resources and then getting out in the mountains and rivers to enjoy them. He currently leads the Hydrologic Remote Sensing Branch at the US Geological Survey, steering research and development of new water monitoring technologies based on satellites, drones, and non-contact sensors. Past work with the USGS has included advising international government agencies on water management strategies and satellite hydrologic monitoring, and – in the US – leading scientific studies to guide tribal, federal, state and regional water management agencies. In the private sector Jack has co-founded a renewable energy development firm (Blue Sky Power) and a stormwater technology startup (RainBank). On the academic front he taught hydrology courses and performed post-doctoral research at Duke University and NC State University after completing a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Duke University (1996) and a B.A. in Philosophy and Mathematics at St. John’s College – Annapolis (1989).
