Johnny Cao

Johnny Cao is a seasoned software engineering leader with extensive experience in data engineering. Currently serving as Director of Software Engineering at Slack since April 2021, Johnny oversees the development and maintenance of critical data ingestion platforms and capabilities. Prior to this, Johnny held significant roles at Salesforce and Flipp, where notable achievements included leading high-performing teams, optimizing processes, and enhancing data architectures using modern technologies like Kafka and Spark. As a founding engineer at Soapbox, Johnny developed core APIs and a distributed data indexing platform. Johnny's academic background includes a Master of Applied Science in Engineering and dual Bachelor's degrees in Geomatics and Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
