Ryan C. White has a diverse background and extensive work experience. Ryan C. is currently working as a Sr. Laser Process Integration Engineer at KYOCERA SLD Laser since January 2022. Prior to this, they were a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where they specialized in III-Nitride wide-bandgap semiconductors for LED and laser technology. Their research focused on developing long-wavelength visible LEDs and microLEDs in the yellow, amber, and red emission regions. During their Ph.D., they also served as an NSF GRFP Fellow, which provided support for their research endeavors.
Ryan also worked as a Project Scientist at Idemitsu Renewables, where they focused on green energy and liquid fuels. As a graduate level intern, they worked on a project involving the reduction of carbon dioxide to various hydrocarbons using different catalyst designs.
In addition, Ryan has experience working at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ryan C. served as an Independent Undergraduate Researcher in Dr. Scott Warren's lab, where they worked on fabricating transferable 2D amorphous metal oxide films on ultraflat ionic substrates. Ryan C. also worked as an Instructor, Teaching Assistant, and Undergraduate Research Assistant during their time at UNC, where they conducted research on dye-sensitized solar cell photocathode technology and explored various material deposition methods.
Furthermore, Ryan has leadership experience as the President of the Dialectic and Philanthropic Societies, one of the oldest student groups in the country. In this role, they managed a body of over 40 active members, made decisions on interpretations of the group's Constitution and Code, and oversaw organizational business. Ryan C. also had responsibilities related to the physical and financial safety of a large portrait collection and served as an ex-officio member of The Dialectic and Philanthropic Societies Foundation.
Lastly, Ryan worked as a High-Throughput Facility Assistant at the UNC Core Peptide Facility, where they gained experience in high-throughput research methods.
Overall, Ryan C. White has gained expertise in laser process integration, III-Nitride wide-bandgap semiconductors, green energy, liquid fuels, nanomaterials, solar cell technology, leadership, and high-throughput research methods throughout their work experience.
Ryan C. White has a strong educational background in the field of science and engineering. Ryan C. earned their Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, completing their studies from 2017 to 2021. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they attended from 2013 to 2017. Ryan's academic journey began at St. John's Prep, where they obtained their High School Diploma from 2009 to 2013. Although the field of study for their high school diploma is not specified, it can be assumed that it was a general high school curriculum.
