Benjamin Tsai

Benjamin Tsai is the President & Managing Partner at SmartCapital, a position they have held since 2021. Prior to this, they were with Zilliqa Capital, Wave Financial, and Cardinal Mark Investments, LLC. From January 2018 to January 2021, Tsai was the Co-Founder and CFO of LA Blockchain Lab. From November 2013 to June 2016, they were the Senior Vice President, Head of Alternative Strategies, Asia Pacific at AllianceBernstein. In this role, they were the sole marketing lead for existing alternative product portfolio of $23bn (liquid alternatives, private credit, real estate related offerings) across Asian clients in both private banking and institutional channels. Tsai also developed new sales channels, such as Hong Kong family offices and Korean institutional clients, creating a pipeline of over $100m capital raise for infrastructure debt fund for 2016. Benjamin led the partnership/merger discussion with three boutique Asia-focused equity long/short hedge funds, as part of the liquid alternatives (UCITS) build-out for high net worth clients. Prior to joining AllianceBernstein, Tsai was the Managing Director, Head of Commodities Asia Pacific (CEO of Merrill Lynch Singapore Commodities) at Bank of America from September 2009 to March 2013.
