James McAvady has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. James started their career as a Helpdesk Support Technician and Hardware Support at Seddon Atkinson Vehicles in 2000. James then worked as a Callcenter Agent at Time and Tiny Computers in 2002, providing technical support to customers.
In 2004, James joined Boots as a Dispatch Service Operative and FLT Instructor, where they were responsible for loading and unloading stock, preparing it for transit, and managing documentation.
In 1998, James worked at the Gracie Fields Theatre as a Sound Engineer, Lighting Engineer, Theatre Technician, and Stage Manager. James handled various tasks ranging from sound engineering to general stage management.
From 2013 to 2014, James worked at Ampersand Commerce as a Graduate Front-End Web Developer, gaining experience in e-commerce and Magento development within an agile environment.
James then worked as a Freelancer at Responsive Developer in 2014, specializing in web technology.
Since 2015, James has been associated with smartebusiness - Ecommerce Growth Specialists. James started as the Head of Support and Frontend Developer and eventually became the Shopify Lead Developer. James also served as a Software Engineer - Frontend Developer, showcasing their expertise in front-end development and partial full-stack development.

James McAvady attended The Manchester Metropolitan University from 2009 to 2013, where they obtained a BSC(hons) degree in Web Development. Their field of study was Web Page, Digital/Multimedia, and Informational Resources Design. In addition to their degree, James has obtained several certifications, including "Business Fundamentals" and "Theme Development" from Shopify Partners in June 2021. James also obtained a certification in "BSC(hons) Web Development" from Manchester Metropolitan University in August 2013. Prior to their university education, James obtained certifications in various fields such as "Manual Lifting & Handling" from Pristine Condition Ltd in April 2005, "Basic food hygiene" from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in May 1999, "Basic Sound Reinforcement" from Wigwam Acoustics Ltd in February 1999, "Intergrated business technology stage 2" from RSA in July 1998, and "Communications exercise" from the 75th Engineer regiment(v) in March 1994. James also obtained a certification as a "Lift Truck Operator Instructor" from RTITB in July 2009.
