Rusty Sage

Rusty Sage is the founder of Nugget Slalom Club, established in February 2024, focusing on youth development in slalom kayaking through clinics and races. Currently a Project Development Manager at SMUD since May 2021, Rusty has extensive experience in renewable energy, having served as Asset and Construction Management at D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments from January 2016 to May 2021, and as Commercial Asset Manager at Bright Plain Renewable Energy from September 2013 to December 2015, overseeing significant operational projects. Prior roles include Operations at Gestamp Solar from 2009 to June 2013 and System Engineer at Cobalt Power from October 2007 to October 2009, along with experience as Staff Engineer at Kennedy Jenks Consulting from August 2005 to September 2007. Rusty also competed as a professional athlete for Red Bull from 1998 to 2007, representing the USA in international whitewater kayaking competitions and achieving notable accomplishments in both river and ocean kayaking. Rusty holds a BSME degree in Engineering from California State University, Chico.
