William Westerfield

William Westerfield is a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in energy and environmental law. Currently serving as Senior Attorney at SMUD since April 2008, Westerfield provides legal and policy support in areas including natural gas matters, energy compliance, electric vehicle infrastructure, and renewable energy projects. Prior to this role, Westerfield worked as an Associate at Ellison, Schneider and Harris and as Senior Staff Counsel at the California Energy Commission. Earlier in the career, Westerfield served as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice, where significant litigation efforts were made in environmental enforcement. William Westerfield holds a Doctor of Law degree from The University of Texas School of Law and a degree in Independent Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, focusing on Environmental Economics.
