Andrew Pendleton has been working in the software engineering field for over fifteen years. Andrew began their career in 2006 as a Web Development Contractor for the Association of Corporate Counsel, where they developed web-based content and document management tools and other database-driven web applications using Linux, PHP, PostgreSQL, Ajax, and SOAP. In 2009, they moved on to Community IT Innovators as a Senior Developer. In 2010, they joined the Sunlight Foundation as a Web Developer. From 2015 to 2021, they worked at Mapbox as an Engineer, where they were the senior-most engineer on Carmen, their in-house geocoding engine. Theirwork centered largely on backend performance optimization, with a particular focus on text-processing-related data structures and algorithms, and they led the transition of much of the computationally intensive infrastructure within Carmen from C++ to Rust. Andrew also worked on sourcing translation data and improving their multilingual search infrastructure. Currently, they are a Senior Software Engineer at Sofar Ocean.
Andrew Pendleton attended The George Washington University from 2004 to 2008, where they studied Computer Science.
