Tim Janssen

Co-Founder & CEO at Sofar Ocean

Tim Janssen is the Co-Founder and CEO of Sofar Ocean. Prior to this, they were an independent research scientist and PI at Theiss Research & NorthWest Research Associates from October 2012 to March 2016. There, they were responsible for acquiring research grants and leading research projects on upper ocean dynamics. Tim then headed up a research office in the San Francisco Bay Area. From October 2008 to July 2012, Tim Janssen was an assistant professor of oceanography at San Francisco State University where they taught several graduate and undergraduate courses in physical oceanography and coastal processes. Tim also advised graduate students and developed an externally-funded research program in upper ocean dynamics. Prior to their work at SFSU, Tim Janssen was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Naval Postgraduate School from January 2006 to December 2008.

Dr. Tim Janssen is an environmental fluid mechanics and physical oceanography expert. Tim has a PhD from Technische Universiteit Delft, and has also been a visiting research scholar at the Naval Postgraduate School and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Additionally, they were a graduate exchange student at Queen's University. Tim's BS and MSc are in environmental fluid mechanics and civil engineering from Technische Universiteit Delft.
