Sonny Ashford has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Sonny began their career in 1970 with the United States Air Force, where they served as an Ltc Col until 1993. Following their military service, Ashford worked as a Program Manager at MFS Network Technologies from 1993 to 1994. Sonny then transitioned to New York Life Insurance Company, where they served as an Agent from 1994 to 1997. In 1998, Ashford joined Software Engineering Services (SES) as a Director of Business Development & Marketing. Sonny held the same role at SES until 2009. Additionally, in 2009, Ashford became the Commissioner for the World Football League, a position they held until 2010.

Sonny Ashford's education history includes a variety of academic achievements over the years. Sonny first attended Fair Park High School from 1960 to 1965, where they completed their college preparatory studies. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from 1965 to 1970, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
