Channing Chen

Mr. Channing Chen is a 13-year veteran of the U.S. solar industry and has raised over $1 billion in institutional and private financing for over 320 megawatts of residential, commercial, and utility scale solar energy projects in the US. He is the founder of Breakaway Energy Partners, LLC and a former executive at Solar Power Partners (acquired by NRG Energy in 2011), SunEdison and NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG).

Mr. Chen has extensive transactional experience and general management experience in the renewable energy markets, where his primary focus has been on distributed solar generation assets (commercial, industrial, municipal, residential).

As the Managing Partner at Breakaway Energy Partners, LLC, Mr. Chen provides advisory services to solar energy developers, EPC contractors, asset owners and investors. Breakaway’s services include due diligence of projects, structuring solar financing vehicles, capital raising, and leading buy-side / sell-side transactions for solar and storage projects. He holds a BA in Environmental Chemistry from the University of California at San Diego and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
