Matthew Gray has worked in the software development industry since 2006. Matthew began their career as a Software Engineering Analyst for Miltec Research & Technology in 2006. In 2008, they took on the role of Developer for Indiezen and Game Development Project Lead for Hatboy Studios, Inc. In 2015, they became the Chief Technology Officer for Hat Boy Software, Inc., offering expertise in software development and consulting services. In 2018, they began working as a Cloud Architecture Consultant for Solliance and HealthEquity. In 2020, they became a Networking and Cloud Architecture Consultant for Stardock. In 2022, they began working as a DevOps and Cloud Architecture Consultant for Profisee.

Matthew Gray completed their high school education at Horn Lake High School from 1994 to 1997. Matthew then attended Mississippi State University from 1997 to 2002, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Matthew continued their studies at Mississippi State University, graduating in 2004 with a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. In 2021, they obtained three HashiCorp Certified certifications, as well as a Terraform: Certified HashiCorp Implementation Partner (CHIP). In 2022, they obtained two OpenHack certifications from Microsoft OpenHack.
