Austin Chen

Austin Chen is an Intermediate Designer at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) since August 2023, with prior experience as a Junior Designer. Previously, Austin gained valuable experience as a Structural Engineering Intern at KPFF Consulting Engineers, where responsibilities included designing structural framing for a hospital project and developing a JavaScript-based interface for marketing data. Austin also worked as a Research Assistant at UC Berkeley, focusing on data analysis for masonry arch bridges, and completed multiple internships at KPFF Consulting Engineers with a focus on equipment anchorage calculations and seismic retrofit design. Austin holds a Master of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley.
