Axel Stein

Latin American Art Department at Sotheby's

Axel Stein is the founder of ASFA, a position held since March 2018. Currently, Axel Stein also serves in the Latin American Art Department at Sotheby's, a role that has been undertaken since December 2008. Previously, from August 1982 to August 1989, Axel Stein was the director of Sala Mendoza, which is affiliated with the Eugenio Mendoza Foundation in Caracas, known for its longstanding arts program. Axel Stein's earlier experience includes working as a curator at Museo de Bellas Artes from January 1978 to August 1982, during a significant transitional period for the museum. Academic credentials include a Licencié in Archaeology and History of Art from Université libre de Bruxelles, completed between 1971 and 1975.
