A BRIEF HISTORY
Sotran Dekorativ really started some time in 1986, evolving from a small Johannesburg Market Theatre Stall, 3m x 3m in size.

It sold bric-a-brac mostly acquired from old, run-down General Dealers around Gauteng.

As it grew, a permanent location was acquired in Benoni under the name of Once Upon A Time Antiques where it traded for 15 years.

In 2002, it moved next to the new Wetherlys Furniture Store in Boksburg, corner Atlas & North Rand rd. A new name was needed to incorporate the wonderful decor & furniture being sourced in Bali, India, China and South-East Asia… and thus the Sotran Brand began.

Sotran Design Quarter opened in Fourways 10 years later whilst the Main Sotran Atlas Rd branch moved 10km further west to East Rand Retail Park in November 2018.

Here, it expanded to 2152m2 Retail/Warehouse set-up where a huge upgrade took place.

Owners, David Lotter & Alison McKay hand-picked new and re-trained existing staff into an efficient Customer Service and Furniture Sourcing team.

 20 years Later

Today, we pride ourselves in achieving an excellent quality of goods, notwithstanding our Imported decor is mostly hand-crafted and imperfect as such.

Our regular Clients come back again and again, looking for that unique, very different style that is associated with tropical islands, exotic locations and crafted solid wood.

Sotran managed to pivot into a competitive on-line sales retailer during the COVID out break, offering free deliveries throughout South Africa. Suppliers in Asia have stayed in contact since 2019 and an even larger selection than before has been attained.
