Avelar Marta is an experienced professional in community outreach and education, currently serving as an Enrollment & Outreach Specialist at OnLok Lifeways since October 2018, focusing on programs for seniors and disabled individuals. Previously, Avelar held the position of HICAP Program Specialist at Council On Aging Silicon Valley since December 2009, providing counseling for Medicare and MediCal. From February 1996 to February 2009, Avelar was the Director of Community Relations at Santa Clara Family Health Plan, overseeing outreach for various health programs. Avelar's career began at the Center for Employment Training, serving as a teacher, counselor, and administrator from September 1972 to February 1997, with responsibilities including vocational counseling and administration of funding contracts. Avelar holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Education, English, and Spanish from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and UC Santa Cruz, earned between 1970 and 1995.
