John Raines

John Raines, PhD, is a seasoned expert in political risk analysis and global affairs with extensive leadership experience across various organizations. Currently serving as Director at S&P Global since March 2022, John co-created a highly attended global affairs webcast and manages a team that delivers in-depth political, security, and regulatory analyses on North America. Prior to this role, John held significant positions at IHS Markit, including Principal Global Risk Advisor and Head of Political Risk, where efforts led to the creation of innovative risk presentation products and completion of numerous advisory projects for financial and governmental clients. John's earlier career includes roles at IHS, Exclusive Analysis, and the U.S. Department of State, where responsibilities ranged from managing political risk methodologies to key diplomatic contributions like coordinating the US-Panama Bilateral Investment Treaty. John holds a PhD in Political Science and Government from The Ohio State University and a Master's degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins SAIS.
