Raphael Laufer has extensive work experience in the field of mathematical military operations analysis. Raphael has been working with Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc. since 1998, where they are currently serving as the DTRA RD Operations Department S&T SME Lead. In this role, they are responsible for leading complex projects that involve data collection, analysis, synthesis, and presentation for various branches and departments within the Department of Defense. Raphael has a strong background in mathematical techniques such as optimization, Bayesian networks, game theory, dynamic programming, and modeling and simulation. Raphael is also interested in applying machine learning to predict programmatic performance.
Prior to joining Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc., Raphael worked at Teculan as a Computer Scientist from 1997 to 1998. Before that, they had a teaching role at UC Berkeley, where they served as an Instructor and Teaching Assistant from 1990 to 1997. During their time at UC Berkeley, they taught various subjects such as Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations, and Statistics, while also assisting in graduate-level courses on Differential Geometry and Multilinear/Homological Algebra.
Raphael Laufer pursued their education with diligence and commitment. Raphael began their academic journey at the University of Chicago in 1986, where they obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Mathematics. Continuing their thirst for knowledge, they furthered their studies at the esteemed University of California, Berkeley, from 1990 to 1997. During this period, they pursued a doctoral degree and earned a PhD in Mathematics.
