Akash Chandra is a Computer Engineering graduate from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with experience in motor control and electrical engineering. As the Motor Controls Team Lead at Illini Formula Electric from September 2021 to July 2023, Akash led a team in designing and testing a custom 80kW inverter and developed software for motor control. In the role of Research & Development Lead at Illini Electric Motorsports from July 2024 to June 2025, Akash focused on debugging hardware and firmware for various components. Akash gained further experience as a Product Engineering Intern at John Deere, optimizing sensors in power distribution systems, and as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Haran Research Group, developing firmware for inverters. Akash has also worked at Brunswick i-Jet Labs, benchmarking EV systems, and is currently a Hardware Test Engineer & Failure Analysis at SpaceX.
