Lead Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Engineer at SpaceX

Nick Christensen is an experienced Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Engineer at SpaceX, responsible for founding the spacecraft plasma interaction laboratory and conducting rigorous tests on spacecraft hardware. Prior to this role, Nick served as a Build Reliability Engineer at SpaceX, focusing on the Falcon 9 fairing and performing lightning direct effects testing. Academic experience includes working as a Plasma Engineering Graduate Researcher at the University of Southern California, where Nick incorporated IC micro fabrication processes into electrospray propulsion technology, and multiple internships at Firefly Aerospace, enhancing propulsion systems and engine testing infrastructure. Nick began a foundation in research as an X-ray Astrophysics Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, investigating interstellar gas using high-resolution X-ray spectrometry. Nick holds a Master’s degree in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Physics with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
