Will Cadell is the founder and CEO of Sparkgeo, a geospatial partner for major technology brands. Will started the company in 2010 and continues to lead it.
In addition to their role at Sparkgeo, Cadell serves as a venture advisor at Cultivation Capital since 2021.
Will is also an official member of the Forbes Technology Council, a prestigious invitation-only community for CIOs, CTOs, and technology executives. Will joined in 2018 and enjoys exclusive benefits such as submitting thought leadership articles and tips for publication on Forbes.com.
Cadell chairs the Innovation Central Society's board, which provides support and services to tech entrepreneurs in the Prince George area. Will has been in this position since December 2016.
Previously, Cadell was the Chief Geographic Officer, Development Team Leader, and PlaceSpeak Platform Architect at New City Ventures. Will led the development team in rebuilding the platform using geoDjango, resulting in increased geographic potential and leveraging the advantages of a robust geoweb framework. Will held this role from November 2011 to February 2013.
Before New City Ventures, Cadell worked as the Senior Manager of Information Technology at TECO Natural Resource Group Limited (formerly Timberline Natural Resource Group). Will managed the IT team, provided support for technology initiatives, and played a key role in cloud strategy and team building. Their tenure lasted from February 2010 to May 2010.
Cadell also had a role at Timberline Natural Resource Group as the Professional Services Manager - GIS. Will managed a group of GIS analysts and developers across multiple provinces and provided technical expertise, project management, and business development support. Will held this role from October 2009 to February 2010. Prior to that, they served as the GIS Services Manager, overseeing a dedicated GIS unit and focusing on business development and industrial diversification. Will held this role from 2006 to 2009.
At the beginning of their career, Cadell worked as a GIS analyst in a natural resource consultancy, where they handled production mapping, raster research and development, and vegetation resource inventory mapping. Will also open sourced a python toolbox for analyzing Landsat imagery provided by the Canadian government.
Before transitioning into the geospatial field, Cadell worked as a Support Engineer Corporate Address Gazetteer at Perth & Kinross Council, where they gained experience in database mashing, address matching, and ad hoc GIS.
Their earliest role was as a Spatial Modeller at Macaulay Land Use Research Institute.
Will Cadell has a diverse education history. Will obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, from 2021 to 2022. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Remote Sensing from the University of Aberdeen between 2000 and 2001. Before their master's degree, they earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronic & Electrical from the same university, studying from 1996 to 2000. Will Cadell's educational journey started at Merchiston Castle School, where they completed their secondary education from 1990 to 1996.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Will Cadell has also obtained several certifications throughout their career. Will completed the Oxford Entrepreneurship: Venture Finance Programme from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford in June 2020. Additionally, they have certifications in Global Business and Politics from the Yale School of Management (February 2020), Google Earth Outreach Developer from Google Earth Outreach (January 2013), KML Qualified from Google (February 2011), and JS Maps API Qualified from Google (May 2010).
