Ian Cheung

CTO and Cofounder at SpeechAce

Ian Cheung has a long and varied work experience in the tech industry. In 2013, they co-founded SpeechAce, a company with the goal of helping people reach native level of speaking American English. As CTO, they worked with a small team to research and develop solutions to identify intonation and pronunciation mistakes. In 2015, they co-founded minima inc. Prior to that, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft from 2000 to 2013. During their tenure, they created the design for the kernel mode and user mode chunk store for the Data Deduplication technology, improved the existing Single Instance Storage feature, adapted an existing file system mini-filter, worked on various new and existing storage management user interfaces, componentized Windows, and worked on Setup UI for Windows XP.

Ian Cheung completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Computer Science from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology between 1997 and 2000. Ian then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington between 2007 and 2010.
