Tom Gowan

Tom Gowan is a seasoned professional in atmospheric sciences and meteorology, currently serving as the Director of Weather Prediction and AI at Spire since January 2021. With a strong background in numerical weather prediction (NWP), Gowan leads teams specializing in NWP, data assimilation, AI, and software engineering. Previous roles include Team Lead for High-Res Modeling and ML Innovation at Spire and NWP Research Scientist, where Gowan developed software tools that enhanced forecasting capabilities. Educational credentials include a PhD and MS in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Utah, supplemented by significant research and leadership experience, including a Visiting Scientist position at NCAR and co-founding the Python Users’ Group at the University of Utah.
