John Eagleton

Co-Founder & Executive Director, Tennis at SportsEdTV

John Eagleton has devoted his life to tennis, both as a player and coach. Growing up in South Africa, he identified tennis early on as an avenue to use his athletic talents to see the world and broaden his horizons. After achieving the #3 world junior ranking in 1973, John headed to the University of Miami and became one of the schools best players ever, boasting the best win-loss percentage over a four-year career in the school’s tennis history. While in college, John beat seven NCAA champions and competed on the ATP tour, achieving top-250 rankings in both singles and doubles. Sidelined by injury after college, he refocused his tennis efforts on coaching, serving as tennis director at several clubs and running two tennis academies. He coached grand-slam winner and fellow South African, Ellis Ferreira, who reached a career high #2 ATP doubles and #212 ATP singles ranking. In 2011, John created a tennis teaching methodology called Techne Tennis, with the purpose of establishing and sharing teaching methods that were in sync with how top players today play the game. Now he spends his time, together with the talented SportsEdTV coaches and contributors, bringing leading tennis instruction ideas and content to people across the globe.
