David Murgatroyd

David Murgatroyd is an experienced engineering leader currently serving as the Engineering Lead (Director, ML Eng) at Spotify since November 2016, overseeing a team that enhances Spotify's personalization through advanced machine learning and platform development. Murgatroyd has previously held several roles within Spotify, including Engineering Lead (Sr Eng Mgr) and Machine Learning Chapter Lead, where contributions included engineering leadership for the Personalization Platform and alignment of machine learning efforts across the organization. Prior to Spotify, Murgatroyd was VP of Engineering at Basis Technology, directing teams in natural language processing, and has also held various technical positions in notable firms such as Unveil Technologies and Wildfire Communications, Inc. Murgatroyd holds a Master of Philosophy in Computer Speech and Language Processing from the University of Cambridge and dual bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Computational and Applied Mathematics from Rice University.
