Thomas Mathias has a diverse work experience in engineering and maintenance roles. Thomas started their career in the US Navy as a Boiler Technician, where they served as a Propulsion Engineer on a submarine supply tender. After leaving the Navy, they worked as an Industrial Mechanic at Dayco, specializing in the production of transmission belts.

In 1998, Thomas joined Regions Hospital as an Operating Engineer, where they were responsible for the operation and maintenance of various equipment, including boilers, turbines, and refrigeration systems. Thomas also gained experience as a Relief Operating Engineer at St. Olaf College, where they provided backup support for plant operations.

Thomas later worked at Vail Resorts as a Lift Mechanic, performing maintenance tasks on chairlifts and surface lifts at Afton Alps resort.

In 2018, they joined DoubleTree by Hilton as an Engineer and then moved to Regions Hospital again in 2019, this time as an Operating Engineer specializing in building operations and controls.

Throughout their career, Thomas has demonstrated expertise in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation.

Thomas Mathias attended Saint Paul College from 2003 to 2004, where they pursued a degree in Air Conditioning, Ventilation, and Refrigeration Maintenance Technology/Technician. During their time there, they obtained a certification as a Refrigeration technician and received universal refrigeration EPA certification. In 2004, Thomas briefly studied Real Estate at Dakota County Technical College.
