Dan R. Tinker has twenty-six years of building products distribution industry operating experience as well as significant experience in acquisitions, strategic planning, sales and marketing and asset management. Mr. Tinker has a consistent track record of increasing shareholder value for both private equity and public corporations. He is known for developing strong relationships with suppliers, customers and employees. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M University and a Masters of Business Administration from Rice University.
Under his leadership, SRS has opened over 180 new greenfield locations and acquired 118 companies in the last fourteen+ years. SRS is now one of the largest building products distributors in the nation and has over 600 locations in 44 states. SRS sold to Leonard Green & Partners from Berkshire Partners in 2018. Mr. Tinker also serves on the board of directors of SRS, is a board of trustee for the Roofing Alliance for Progress, and a member of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies. He serves on the board of two non-profits including The One Tribe Foundation, which is aimed at ending veteran suicide, and he is also the President of the SRS Raise the Roof Foundation which has raised over $15 Million in the past ten years to benefit wounded veterans, people impacted by weather related disasters and other community needs.
He started his career in 1996 with Cameron Ashley Building Products as a management trainee, then moved on to Branch Manager in 1997, taking over the worst branch in the company out of 165 locations and in one year turned it into the branch of the year for the entire company. He moved on to district manager, then regional manager. In 2000 he joined MMI Products in Houston, Texas as the VP of Sales and Marketing, and in 2002 moved on to become the VP of Western Operations covering manufacturing and distribution. In 2004, he left MMI to become the President of Shelter Distribution where he served until being acquired in 2005 by Beacon Roofing Supply. In 2008 he joined SRS as COO, where he served for 7 years, then became President in 2015, and then CEO in 2017.
