Senior Director Of Engineering, Head Of AI at Stack

Alvaro Collet Romea has extensive work experience in the field of computer vision and engineering. Alvaro currently holds the position of Senior Director of Engineering and AI Lead at Stack AV. Prior to that, they worked at Meta as the Head of Adaptive Mixed Reality, where they led the development of a platform for AR/VR experiences that adapt to the environment. Alvaro was responsible for setting the organizational vision and strategy and leading execution across multiple departments.

Before their role at Meta, Alvaro worked at Facebook as a Staff Applied Research Scientist, contributing to applied research projects. Alvaro also spent several years at Microsoft, first as a Senior Software Engineer and later as a Software Engineer II. In these roles, they focused on computer vision research for Microsoft HoloLens, developing end-to-end solutions for creating high-quality free-viewpoint video.

Alvaro's career started at Carnegie Mellon University, where they completed their Ph.D. in Computer Vision and Robotics. During their time at the university, they worked as a researcher on various projects, including robotic manipulation and object recognition in cluttered scenes. Alvaro also had the opportunity to work as a Summer Fellow at Intel Labs.

Throughout their career, Alvaro has gained expertise in areas such as AI/ML/CV components, system architecture, cloud infrastructure, developer APIs, and game engine integration. Their work demonstrates their ability to lead and contribute to complex projects in the field of computer vision and engineering.

Alvaro Collet Romea's education history begins in 2000, when they enrolled at La Salle - Universitat Ramon Llull. Alvaro completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications and Telematics in 2004. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications at the same institution from 2004 to 2005. Moving on, Alvaro attended Carnegie Mellon University in 2007, where they obtained a Master of Science in Robotics, specializing in the field of robotics. Alvaro continued their studies at Carnegie Mellon, earning a PhD in Robotics between 2009 and 2012.
