Elizabeth Smith

Elizabeth Smith is currently a Business Advisor at Statellite. Prior to that, they were a Staff Data Scientist & Tech Lead at Orbital Insight from February 2015 to June 2020, where they used AI and advanced analytics to build commercial software products that gave actionable business insights from terabytes of geospatial data.

Some of their notable accomplishments at Orbital Insight include leading the development of a fully-automated software solution to map floods from remote-sensed data for a large Japanese insurance company and devising and executing a Quality Assurance plan for Orbital's geospatial analytics software platform that successfully prevented customer-facing bugs through the deployment of monitors, dashboards, and alerts.

Orbital Insight was named a Forbes’ “Next Billion Dollar Startup” and one of Fast Company's “Most Innovative Companies” during Elizabeth's tenure.

Elizabeth is also a Data Science Health Innovation Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, where they are currently working on October 2020 to July 2022.

Elizabeth Smith earned their PhD in Biophysics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Elizabeth then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Molecular Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco. Finally, they received their BA in Physics from Pomona College.
