John C. Moritz

Chief politics reporter

John C. Moritz is the Chief Politics Reporter for the Austin American-Statesman, a position held since 2024. They previously worked in Communications/Public Affairs for the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas from 2014 to 2016 and served as Deputy Metro Editor at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram from 1989 to 1996. Moritz has also been a Digital Executive Producer at KXAN News and a Reporter for Quorum Report. They are currently the State Capitol Correspondent for Gannett | USA TODAY NETWORK. Moritz earned a B.A. in Journalism from The University of Texas at Arlington from 1980 to 1983.
