The Regional Statistics Service of the Azores (SREA) acts as the statistical authority for official statistics of exclusive interest to the Autonomous Region of the Azores and as the delegation of the National Statistics Institute (INE) for official statistics at national level.

Under this dual status, the SREA's mission is to produce and disseminate high-quality official statistical information, contributing to citizenship and the development of a knowledge-based and evolving society.

In carrying out its duties, the SREA is governed by the fundamental principles of the National Statistical System, namely the principles of technical independence, statistical confidentiality, quality, and statistical accessibility.
