Derek Smart

Derek Smart is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in Quality, Health, Safety, Environment (QHSE), and Human Resources (HR) in the energy and paper industries. Currently serving as the Director of QHSE & HR at STATS Group since July 2006, Derek oversees HR, training, and competence across all regions while also managing the implementation of key ISO accreditations. Previous roles at STATS Group include HR/QHSE Manager and HR Manager, where responsibilities encompassed a broad geographical scope including the UK, Canada, Middle East, and Far East. Prior to STATS Group, Derek held various positions at International Paper, culminating in the role of Work Systems Coordinator, which involved senior management level initiatives for continuous improvement and employee engagement. Derek holds a PgCert in Human Resource Management and a PgDip in Management Studies from Robert Gordon University.
