Franck Royer

Waku Connect Team Lead at Status

Franck Royer has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Franck began their career as an intern at Orange Business Services, where they developed the exploitation interface of the vocal platform Contact Direct. After that, they worked as an intern at CSSI, where they developed a cryptographic Java applet for online document signature. Franck then joined Astek as an IT Consultant, working on C++ development for the departure control system provided by Amadeus to airlines.

In 2011, Royer joined Amadeus IT Group as a Software Development Engineer, where they contributed to the implementation of new features and maintenance of critical functionalities of the Amadeus check-in application. Franck gained proficiency in C++, the STL, Boost Lib, Oracle SQL, Perl, Python, Java, and Bash during this role. Additionally, they mentored newcomers and proposed major refactoring for the package, establishing himself as a go-to person within and outside the team.

Royer continued their journey at Amadeus IT Pacific, initially working as a Software Development Engineer in the Altea DCS Tools & Integration team. Here, they were responsible for the development environment, internal tools, and building processes. Franck then took on various managerial roles, including Senior Software Development Unit Manager for the Altea CM Regulatory, Acceptance, IATCI & Customer Identification team, and later for the Seat, SSCI, Maintenance & Integration teams. Throughout these roles, they led teams, introduced agile methodologies, improved team-made web GUI, and delivered critical projects with transparent communication to stakeholders. Franck also participated in the Agile transformation of the department and successfully handled the delivery of a project with a very aggressive deadline.

In 2018, Royer joined CoBloX as a Senior Crypto Engineer, where they designed and implemented several Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) in Rust and TypeScript. Franck'skey achievements include implementing mainnet-ready HTLC-based atomic swaps between Bitcoin, Lightning Bitcoin, and Ethereum, as well as leading a team to build a Rust DAI-BTC atomic swap MVP.

Most recently, Royer joined Status in 2021 as the Waku Connect Team Lead.

Franck Royer has an educational background in computer sciences, mathematics, economics, and foreign languages. In 2001, they completed their baccalauréat in science with a specialty in mathematics at Lycée Camille Jullian. From 2006 to 2009, they pursued a Diplôme d'Ingénieur at ENSIIE - École Nationale Supérieure d'Informatique pour l'Industrie et l'Entreprise, where they furthered their studies in computer sciences, mathematics, economics, and foreign languages. In 2008, Franck Royer attended The University of Manchester and obtained a master's degree in Advanced Computer Sciences, specializing in an advanced level of computer-related knowledge. Furthermore, they obtained a SCRUM Master certification in September 2014 from the Scrum Alliance.
