André Assis, PhD, is a data scientist and materials scientist with a robust background in chemical engineering. They currently work as a Principal R&D Data Scientist at Covestro, leading global initiatives to enhance research and development through data science and machine learning. André previously held various positions in the steel industry, including Research and Development Manager at Vallourec, where they managed extensive R&D portfolios and predictive analytics projects. With a PhD and MS in Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University, André is committed to AI safety and the mentorship of future engineers, advocating for gender equality and diversity in the workplace. They are also an Advisory Board Member at SteelTrace B.V.
