James Griner has a diverse work experience spanning several companies. James started their career as an Imaging Systems Engineer at Perceptics LLC in 1989 before moving on to work as a Senior Software Engineer at FLIR Systems in 1996. In 1999, they briefly worked as a Product Manager at Avereon Research Ltd. James then joined Applied Microsystems in 2000 as a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in software development for customization of standard products. In 2002, they became a Lead Software Engineer at Metrowerks, where they led a team developing the CodeTEST software analysis product. Metrowerks was later acquired by Freescale Semiconductor, where James served as a Lead Software Engineer until 2009. In 2010, they joined Powerit Solutions as the Director of Software Development and later became the Director of Software Development - Embedded Systems at Stem, Inc. in 2015. James held various roles at Stem, including Principal Engineer and Head of Edge and IoT. James has extensive experience in software development, embedded systems, and technical leadership.

James Griner has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, which they obtained from 1981 to 1986. Additionally, they also hold a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the same university, which they obtained from 1986 to 1989.
