Rob Blakey

Rob Blakey is an experienced professional in horticultural science with a focus on avocado research and development. Currently serving as the Director of Research & Development at Stemilt Growers since November 2017, Rob has a history of managing extensive research trials across the avocado supply chain. Previously, Rob held the position of Tree Fruit Extension Specialist - Postharvest Information & Technology Transfer at Washington State University from August 2016 to November 2017. Prior to that, Rob worked as a Scientific & Compliance Officer and Horticultural Scientist at Greencell Ltd from January 2010 to August 2016. Rob holds a PhD in Horticultural Science and a BSc in Horticultural Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Major research projects include improving avocado propagation, mitigating abiotic stress, determining fruit quality non-destructively, and enhancing postharvest storage and ripening.
