Ron Matus has extensive experience in journalism and education policy, currently serving as the Director of Research and Special Projects and previously as the Director and Assistant Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Step Up For Students since February 2012. Prior to this, Ron worked as a reporter for the Tampa Bay Times from June 2002 to February 2012 and at the Gainesville Sun from September 1997 to June 2002. Educationally, Ron completed graduate work in the Program in Florida Studies at the University of South Florida between May 2021 and December 2022, and also pursued graduate studies in American and Florida Studies at Florida State University from 1996 to 1997. Ron holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and creative writing from Florida State University, awarded in 1990.
