The event was initiated in 2009 under the name “3D Stereo MEDIA”. It was then focused on stereoscopic 3D and was held in Liège, Belgium. In 2017, three major changes happened: the event was renamed Stereopsia, the focus was changed to immersion (thus still including S3D), and the location became Brussels, Belgium.
By immersion, we mean mainly S3D, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), with the latter four being often referred to globally as extended reality (XR). During its 15 years of existence, the event has focused on the science, technology, art, and business for (1) S3D content & technologies until 2016, and (2) immersive content & technologies since then. The event has always competitions and awards for best XR content and games.
