Group Leader: Detector Development

Matthew Veale is the current group leader for Detector Development at the STFC's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, specializing in next-generation radiation detectors for scientific and industrial applications. With 20 years of experience, they began their career with a CASE-Plus PhD at the University of Surrey, focusing on Cadmium Zinc Telluride detectors. Since joining STFC in 2009, Matthew has played a crucial role in advancing X-ray imaging technologies, particularly through the HEXITEC collaboration. They are also an active member of the Institute of Physics, contributing to governance committees and mentoring within the physics community.
