Steve Pickston

Steve Pickston is the Head of Fire Risk Management for the Science and Technology Facilities Council, overseeing fire safety management across five UK sites, including the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the Royal Observatory Edinburgh. In this role, they develop and manage an effective Fire Risk Management System and serve as a Subject Matter Expert for construction projects. Prior to this, Steve worked as a Risk Management Surveyor for Ecclesiastical Insurance, assessing fire safety and security arrangements. With 22 years of experience in the Royal Air Force, they served as a Senior Fire Safety Manager, advising leadership on fire safety and managing comprehensive fire safety systems across multiple operational bases. Steve holds a Level 4 Certificate in Education from Wiltshire & Somerset College.
