Thomas Butcher is the Divisional Head at the Centre for Advanced Laser Technology and Applications (CALTA) within the UK’s Central Laser Facility. They lead a multidisciplinary team in the development and commissioning of advanced high-energy laser systems, including the DiPOLE series installed in international facilities. Previously, Thomas served as a Senior Delivery Manager for the EPAC Project and as a Post Doctoral Researcher at the University of Southampton, where they focused on soft x-ray generation and ultrafast pulse compression. Thomas holds a Ph.D. in Laser and Optical Engineering and a Master's in Physics with specializations in photonics and optical physics from the University of Southampton.
