Tony Hey is the Chief Data Scientist at the Science and Technology Facilities Council in the UK and a Senior Data Science Fellow at the University of Washington eScience Institute. Prior to these roles, they served as a Professor and Head of the Electronics and Computer Science Department at the University of Southampton from 1985 to 2001, where they conducted significant research in parallel message-passing computing. Tony was instrumental in developing the first parallel benchmark suite, 'Genesis,' and co-authored the initial draft of the MPI message-passing standard. They also held the positions of Department Chair from 1992 to 1998 and Dean of Engineering and Applied Science from 1998 to 2001 at the University of Southampton and worked as Corporate Vice President at Microsoft Research from 2005 to 2014.
