Larry McLemore

Head of School at Saint James School

Dr. Larry McLemore is a grateful member of the Saint James School class of 2000. The people of Saint James School prepared Larry to follow their examples and inspired him to do good for others. After his graduation from Saint James, Larry earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and history from Huntingdon College, graduating summa cum laude. In college, Larry served as Student Government Association President was an intern at The White House, and served as a coach at Saint James. Larry went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Vanderbilt University in 2006 and a Ph.D. in history from Auburn University in 2012.

In 2007, Larry joined the staff of Saint James School as a high school history teacher and coach. Prior to beginning his service as head of school in 2015, Larry served Saint James as dean of student programs and high school counselor, and as the director of the advancement, while continuing to teach history. Larry has also taught students in history at the college level.

Larry believes in the importance of serving others, which is why he has been actively involved in the following boards and community organizations: Huntingdon College, Bridge Builders Alabama, Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts, Leadership Montgomery, and the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce Chairman’s Circle. He and his family are active members of First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, where he teaches Sunday School.
