Rick Wright started their career in 1973 as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy, where they served for 28 years. Rick had several roles within the Navy, including commanding an anti-submarine warfare frigate, a strike destroyer, and a seven-ship destroyer squadron. Rick also served as the Sea Combat Commander in Operation Allied Force. In 1996-1998, they built and led the Surface Warfare Policy and Requirements Branch in the Office of Chief of Naval Operations. In 2000-2001, they directed the Long Range Planning and Information Warfare Campaign team. In 2001, they joined Strategic Insight, Ltd. as a General Associate and Defense Consultant. Rick provided support for various projects, including a comprehensive examination of the material establishment needed by the Navy in the next 30 years and the development of the Surface Warfare Capabilities Study. Rick worked for Strategic Insight until August 2012.
Rick Wright obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in International Security Affairs from the United States Naval Academy between 1969 and 1973. Rick later pursued a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1977-1978. In the same period, they also earned a Master of Arts degree in Naval Intelligence from the same institution.
