Varun S Murthy

Varun S Murthy is a Senior Data Scientist at StreetLight Data, focusing on data science applications within transportation engineering and climate change since December 2019. Previous experience includes serving as a Graduate Student Researcher at Yale University from July 2012 to August 2019, where Varun conducted research on tropical cyclonic vortices, producing five peer-reviewed articles. At the Indian Institute of Science from September 2009 to June 2012, Varun worked as a Research Assistant, utilizing time series analysis to study convective instability and developing a Java application to assist research flight crews. In earlier roles, Varun was a Software Engineer at Cisco Systems and an intern at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, focusing on network security applications and telescope control systems, respectively. Varun holds a PhD and an MPhil in Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Dynamics from Yale University, an MTech in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the Indian Institute of Science, and a B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
