Osman Shawkat

Osman Shawkat has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries.

Osman is currently working as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist at Strong Analytics, starting in August 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Outrider as a Senior Perception, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning Engineer from October 2021 to January 2022. During this time, they developed a two-stage ML system for text detection and reading in complex scenes, coordinated human labeling of a custom dataset, and trained a RetinaNet model for text detection.

Before their role at Outrider, Osman worked at American Haval Motor Technology LLC as a Perception Engineer from June 2018 to January 2020. Here, they designed and implemented complete Emergency Vehicle (EV) detection capability for Autonomous Vehicles (AV), constructed a simulation pipeline for model validation, devised a sensor calibration routine, and selected and integrated sensors on AV for robust Perception.

From November 2014 to November 2016, Osman worked at CAN Mobilities as a Senior Engineer. Osman also worked at DBC City Bike Design as a Design & Engineering Consultant from June 2013 to July 2014. In this role, they led various R&D projects, including market analysis, electronics design, and prototyping.
