Founded in September 2024, the Student Affordability Coalition is a grassroots, student-led advocacy group at the University of British Columbia (UBC) committed to protecting the student body from unnecessary financial burdens.

In the face of a growing cost-of-living crisis, we believe that education should remain accessible. Our mission is to protect student budgets from constant fee hikes by holding Alma Mater Society (AMS) leadership accountable and demanding complete transparency in how student money is spent.

What We Do:
📉 Advocacy & Action: We mobilize students to push back against unjustifiable fee increases, ensuring that student organizations balance their budgets through smart reallocation rather than relying on new student taxes.

🔍 Financial Accountability: We shed light on where student money goes, exposing financial mismanagement, and providing clear, fiscally responsible alternatives to proposed fee hikes.

🗳️ Grassroots Organizing: Through campus-wide movements like our "JUST SAY NO" campaign, we empower students to vote with their wallets and protect their financial well-being at the ballot box.

Our Impact:
Students hold the power. We are continuing a long legacy of UBC students standing united for affordability. From defeating omnibus fee increases to stopping unnecessary faculty and general fee hikes, we have proven that grassroots pushback works. We firmly believe that our student union must learn to manage its multi-million dollar budget responsibly before asking students for a bailout.
