Derek Kane is a highly experienced professional in the field of optical communications and signal processing. Currently serving as a Senior Optical Communications System Scientist and Optical Communications Modeler at SubCom since June 2023, Derek has a substantial background in research and development, having held the position of Principal R&D Engineer at DEKA Research & Development from October 2000 to May 2023. Additional roles include Adjunct Professor at Southern New Hampshire University from 2007 to 2009, Sales Engineer at Coventor in early 2000, and Principal Systems Engineer at BAE Systems from 1996 to 2000. Derek's career began as a Systems Engineer at Itek Optical Systems from 1988 to 1991. Derek holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
